justice?

Life just ain't fair sometimes.

You read that verse in Matthew about the sparrows, and it makes you feel all warm inside until the last thing a bird ever sees is the hood of your car.

Tomorrow is Friday, and that's exciting until you realize some kids wish we had school on the weekends because they'd rather be anywhere but home.

You look pretty good in black and hot pink -- a little break from the brown routine! -- until the button falls off your pants.

Life just ain't fair sometimes. But on the other hand...

Your library books are overdue at ten cents per item per hour. You smile at the work-study student and pull out your wallet, only to hear, "It's been cleared. No fine today."

You drop your granola bar coupon somewhere in Wal-Mart, and your generic milk is out-of-stock. Then you see a $1.00 coupon taped to a carton of name-brand milk.

You don't have time to wash your hair this morning and you bathe a wrinkled pair of khakis in Pink: Soft & Dreamy body spray. The first-grader with pigtails and no front teeth says once again, "You're just... beautiful."

Like I said, life just ain't fair sometimes.
