Reality Checks

I get the question a lot, "Where exactly are you from?" I always say I'm from somewhere near the nearest large town, and they're satisfied with that. I never expect people in another state to know about our little town -- but she does. One of the teachers in my school, in a town the size of a grain of rice, had her first teaching job in my peanut of a hometown. What your mother told you is true: you should always be on your best behavior! I may have never been more self-aware than the moment when I handed that teacher the email address of a church member from back home. It really is a small world.

it's funny, the little things you remember...

Being in elementary school all day has brought back a flood of memories from my childhood -- some good, some less good.

Hot Cocoa-My-Goodness!

Tonight I did something I've been wanting to do for a long time: I went to the grocery store in my slippers. I was looking for cinnamon apple spice tea, which is healthier than apple cider, but as usual found Food City's tea selection disappointing. Plan B: go home and drink some hot chocolate. It's cold outside! Instead of the dessert-like box variety, I decided to go with something I could make from scratch. (I like to think I could survive without mixes.) How complicated could it be, right? What a decadent little concoction!

Hot Cocoa-My-Goodness!
8 oz. milk -or- 6 oz. water and 2 oz. milk
1 tsp. nutella
1 heaping tbsp. cocoa powder
1 heaping tbsp. powdered sugar
peppermint candy

Heat milk or water to almost boiling and pour into large mug. Stir in nutella until completely melted, then add cocoa and powdered sugar. Drop in a peppermint or two and enjoy!

homework

I had to write this for an assignment in my Human Development class. It's based on this original poem by George Ella Lyon. I kind of like it, so I thought I'd share!

how B&J made my day

I visited my local scoop shop yesterday and found this on the bulletin board. It really warmed my heart!

Dear Ben & Jerry's Crew,
Thank you for all the trouble you went through to mail my Tomagotchi to me. I named my new baby "BJ" for you.
Sincerely,
Conner Cross
P.S. Hope to come and get ice cream soon.
